Winter: May to September

An unforgettable journey through the majestic Andes Mountains, now covered in snow. Our expert guides will lead us along ice-covered roads to explore the imposing Lakes Escondido and Fagnano aboard 4x4 vehicles. Then, a thrilling off-road journey will connect us with the wildest nature of winter and take us to our private refuge, where an authentic Argentinian barbecue awaits us.

Our 4x4 journey begins with a departure from your hotel in Ushuaia, taking us into a stunning, snow-covered glacial valley. The first stage of the trip culminates at Garibaldi Pass, the only road pass that crosses the majestic Fuegian Andes mountain range. From this high point in the Cordillera, we'll have a privileged view of the snow-capped peaks and Lake Escondido, a small natural wonder that we will later travel along from south to north via National Route 3.

Near the northern end of Lake Escondido, we will leave the asphalt to begin a thrilling off-road journey. We'll venture along the old, snow- and ice-covered roads of a sawmill, which soon transform into challenging trails impassable for conventional vehicles. These will lead us directly to Lake Fagnano, the fifth largest lake in Argentina, where its vast expanse will leave us breathless.

In the forest, on the shores of the impressive Lake Fagnano, we'll have free time to walk and explore Laguna Bombilla, which is frozen for much of the winter. Meanwhile, our guide will prepare a hearty and comforting meal, which we will enjoy comfortably in our exclusive refuge. Located in the midst of this pristine, white natural environment, far from the hustle and bustle of modern life, this moment will be the perfect ending to our day of exploration in Tierra del Fuego.

The climate in Tierra del Fuego is famously unpredictable; it is possible to experience sun, rain, and wind all in a single day. The rains are rarely torrential. In summer, average temperatures are around 10°C (with variations between 5°C and 15°C), while in winter they are usually close to 0°C. The key to enjoying your trip is to be well-prepared.

Essential Clothing: The "Onion" Method
To ensure comfort during outdoor activities, dressing in layers is crucial. The "onion" system allows you to adapt your clothes to changing weather conditions and your level of physical activity.

  • Layers: Wear several thin garments that can be easily put on or taken off to regulate your body temperature in response to wind or sun.
  • Footwear: This is the highest priority. It is vital to have waterproof footwear that offers robust protection, ideal for walking on wet, muddy, or snowy terrain.
  • Jacket: Indispensable. A waterproof or water-resistant jacket will effectively protect you from rain and wind.

Recommended Clothing:

  • Thermal undergarments (shirt and leggings for those who are particularly sensitive to the cold).
  • Waterproof trekking boots for walking on mountainous terrain.
  • A fleece or microfleece jacket/sweatshirt.
  • A rain/windproof jacket. Ideal: Gore-tex or softshell.
  • A warm hat and neck warmer (buff); gloves.
  • Bringing your own reusable bottle helps us avoid using disposable plastics: we will have water to refill it!
